Random Thoughts and Musings

"Potatoes with Robin Hood"

The name of the day may be cloudy and
That 'word' may be out of reach
BUT,
I remember being one of the "Merry Men"
Bounding over Billy's back fence Into

"Sherwood Forest!"
The poplar tree windbreak our armoury,
Our hiding place and our castle
Then we pounced on the slimy Sheriff
And his fearless gang of Warren and Ben.
So began the breakneck battle with branches,
And it rolled and it roared and it raged for hours.

Until at last, thirty minutes later we sat,
Scratched and scuffed and sore,
Around a fire made according to
The rules of "Laramie" and "Wagon Train"
A circle of stones to contain it,
For safety, a foot of clear dirt all around.
The small twigs and dry grass in the middle
And a pyramid of wood stacked at the top

A feast was planned for the victors
The  pinched potatoes piled ready
For baking or burning in the blaze
Of at least 8 inches high

As the evening draws on I remember
There's nothing quite like the young friendship
Of shared, semi cooked charcoal covered
Potatoes with Robin Hood.

"That's not Dada"

That's not Dada
The surrealist dreamed
While making romantic advances
To the French impressionist.
"Marceau never sounded like that.",
Expressed the red headed Dutchman
Cubing his Vorticist soup.
But it is Dada
The young girl said
Wrapping her arms round his legs.

"Poem for Eric and Ernie"

Lines that had been floating in my head for some days crashed onto the page today--
The right words... just not necessarily in the right order..
